A Unique Selection! Meditrina Offers Wine, Beer, Cheeses & More

CHESTER, VT. - Located at 177 South Main Street in Chester, Meditrina, which is
named for the Roman goddess of health, longevity and wine, is a distinctive shop dedicated to providing customers with a superb and ever-evolving selection of wine, beer and cheese and other specialty items.

Meditrina is owned and operated by Amy Anderson and Tate and Sara Pinto since the spring of 2010. "We opened the shop almost two years ago on Memorial Day weekend, after many months of discussions between Amy, Sara and myself," Tate Pinto said in a recent interview. "We've all been passionate about the wine and food industry and this was our way of bringing some of our favorite things to our town. We're lucky to be in a great community that quickly adopted us and put Meditrina into their weekly to do list!"

Meditrina offers a wide variety of both old and new world wine labels from around the globe, including Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina and South Africa. Some U.S. labels include California, Oregon, Washington, New York and of course, they also offer a selection of Vermont-made wines as well.

"Our wine selection is ever changing as we continue to bring in new wines to share with our customers. If we don’t have what you are looking for we are happy to make special orders and we also offer case discount."

Meditrina also features an expansive beer wall which includes craft, seasonal and local brews. You will find favorites from various U. S. breweries, as well as a variety of international classics from Germany, Belgium, France and more. There are also case discounts and special orders are welcome.

"We jokingly call our shop the clubhouse because the small, personal setting encourages people to come in and hang out… which they do," Tate said. " We also hold regular in-shop wine (Wine Wednesday) and beer (Thank God It's Beer Friday) tastings which have further encouraged that atmosphere. We love getting to know people's taste profiles and we all try very hard to guide customers to a purchase they will love and come back for."

Shoppers will also find an expansive assortment of Vermont-made cheeses including Taylor Farm, Plymouth Cheese Company, Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery, Boucher Family Farm, Jasper Hill, Grafton Cheddar, Blythedale Farm, Consider Bardwell Farm, Maplebrook Farm, Ploughgate Creamery and Crowley Cheese.

"In addition to our diverse selection of wine and beer, we also have a great selection of specialty food items," Tate added. "We work with many Vermont cheese producers and artisan food suppliers to stock our shelves with some of the best our area has to offer."

Other international favorites available include Manchego, Miticana, de Cabra, Fontina, Parmesan Reggiano, Pecorino Romano, as well as a fine selection of cured meats, speciality crackers, chutneys, preserves, chocolate and more. We are always bringing in new product to the shop. "You will always find new wines on our shelves and in our case stacks, of beer on our beer wall and cheese in the fridge. We also focus on providing quality products at all price points.

"One of the unique things about our shop is we always try to have an event on the horizon," Tate said. "In April we are planning three special events, plus our regular in-shop tastings. Sara and I are cooking Indian food (b.y.o.b.) at the Country Girl Diner on Friday, (byob) April 6th. We will have beer and wine suggested pairings for the Indian food available at the shop as well.

On Thursday, April 12th Meditrina will be collaborating with the Stone Hearth Inn & Tavern for a beer and wing tasting. "They have an amazing list of different flavored wings and we look forward to some interesting beer pairings. And the last week of the April we will be holding a sushi and wine pairing dinner at the Old Town Farm Inn. All events go up on our Facebook page so be sure to check in for updates.
