The late Doug Bashaw, a Charlestown, NH native and 1982 graduate of Fall Mountain Regional High School (FMRHS) in Langdon, tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on August 6, 2008. Mr. Bashaw is remembered by his family and friends as a one of a kind person – charismatic, funny, a family man and very talented musician, sound engineer and philanthropist.

To ensure his lasting memory, Doug’s family created the Douglas Bashaw Scholarship Fund in which each year, a $500 scholarship is given to an FMRHS student who will be continuing their education in the fields of music, theatre or the arts. Last year’s scholarship recipient was a local musician, Adam Kroian.

"Last year's benefit was again, a tremendous success, as we raised over $2,500 for the scholarship fund," Mr. Bashaw’s widow, Kelly Hood Bashaw, said in a recent interview. "We are really looking forward to this year’s final event and we’ll have lots of food, drink, raffles, gift baskets and of course, a full day of great local music.”

This year’s lineup of bands will include Heartfire (playing from 11:30 a.m.-12:15), Spectris (12:30 – 1:15), Stage Potatoes (1:30 – 2:15), Conniption Fits (2:30 – 3:15), Carey Lee Rush & Friends, including Mark and Debbie Bond, Ben Butterworth and Andy Hanscom (3:30 – 4:15), 4 Play (4:30 – 5:15), Roadhouse (5:30 – 6:15) and finally SHINE & friends (Doug’s former bandmates) from 6:45 to… who knows when? Sound production will be handled by Steve Lafoe of Mach One Sound.

“This year’s lineup is stellar and the family and crew are the best,” Carey Lee Rush recently stated. “There will be great music, food, gift baskets, jello shots – all for Doug, one last time. This year, I promised something different than my usual acoustic set, so I've asked four of the most talented and musically fun friends a guy could have to partake with me. We'll do some Led Zeppelin, (Doug's favorite) plus some tunes I used to do way back in the day."

Doug is remembered as a man who wore many hats. From front-man and bassist extraordinaire, to sound engineer and devoted family man, Doug wasted no time in his life and had an infectious ability to make you laugh and just feel better about life. The outpouring of love and admiration this event has brought out over the past five years clearly shows just how much of an impact Doug had on so many people. Recently, local rockers Stonewall dedicated their latest CD release to Mr. Bashaw, who had produced their debut release in 2011.

Doug was a firm believer in working hard to reach one's artistic goals and often donated his own time and music equipment to such endeavors. He worked tirelessly to not only promote the local music scene, but also encourage young people to get out there and perform. Consequently, this benefit has been the perfect platform for which these values will continue to "shine" for years to come, through the scholarship funds that have been raised. However, do not be surprised if a “Bashaw Scholarship Reunion Concert” pops up sometime down the line.
