BELLOWS FALLS, VT.-On Saturday, family, friends and many wonderful musicians gathered for the third annual Douglas Bashaw Scholarship Benefit, held at the Polish American Picnic Grounds in Bellows Falls. The late Doug Bashaw, a native of Charlestown, NH and 1982 graduate of Fall Mountain Regional High School(FMRHS), meant many things to many people. He was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, friend, musician, front-man and sound engineer-and he did them all with love, humor and a unique flair like no other.

Three years ago, Mr. Bashaw's family created the Douglas Bashaw Scholarship Fund in which each year, a scholarship is given to a FMRHS student interested in continuing their education in the fields of music, theatre or the arts.

There were many great raffle prizes given away including two weekend passes to the annual Roots On The River Festival, over 20 gift baskets of all different themes, a 50/50 raffle and a Peavy International drum kit which was generously donated by Matt and Chris Lillie, of Soundtown Music. There were even CD copies available of a 1988 recording of original Doug Bashaw compositions.

"I can not thank everyone enough for all the love and support we receive each year for our scholarship benefit," Mr. Bashaw's wife, Kelly Hood Bashaw, said in an interview the following day. "This year we raised $3,800 for the scholarship fund, and I couldn't be more proud."

This years line up of great local bands included Burnpile, Kelly's Heroes, Please Don't Tell, Spectris, 4 Play, Intercept and the show-closing Shine, which was one of Mr. Bashaw's former bands. "A special thank you to all the bands who gave their time to entertain everyone, because that is what Doug loved to do most of all," Kelly added.

This event is very special in that it not only raises money for students to continue their education, but it also brings together family, friends and some people who don't even know each other, to simply enjoy life, great music and to keep alive the memory of a great person.

The Bashaw family would like to thank all the bands who came out to play, also Matt and Chris Lillie for donating the drum kit, Ralph's Supermarket, Putnam's Farm, Pete's Stand, Roots On The River, Jackson's Dream Drinks, all the folks who created gift baskets and gave silent donations, and everyone who came out for this special event.
