Stone Hearth InnPublished in The Message For The Week, January 28, 2009
Welcome to the Stone Hearth Inn, an historic inn and restaurant located on Route 11 West in Chester and owned by Francy and Sheldon, who just so happen to be celebrating their one year anniversary this week.
Their early success is a result of hard work and paying close attention to detail, especially with their menu, which is personally prepared by Francy and Sheldon, with the cooking shared by Francy and Justin Gosselin.
“Francy has always had a strong interest in cooking for family and friends,” Sheldon said in a recent interview. “While we lived in France we was able to develop skills that have been transferred to our inn.
“Francy cooked for 20 to 50 people every day during the summer months and every other day in the winter, while Justin a graduate of Paul Smith Culinary College.”
Stone Hearth's diverse, rotating menu is inspired by simple European traditions, while also staying true to the freshest local and regional ingredients.
“Our food is consistent, homemade and made to order” Sheldon stated. “This is important to us, as we want our guests to be satisfied and relaxed. Our specialty is tartiflette, a French dish from the Savoie region. Consisting of a cheese platter featuring both European and local cheeses and comfort foods that warm the soul.”
The wine list offers a diverse mix from around the globe, an extensive, hand–picked list featuring both affordable as well as hard to find wines. Along with their dynamic menu, Stone Hearth's cozy tavern offers a full bar featuring a variety of interesting micro brews including Trout River, Magic Hat, Smuttynose and Rock Art, to name a few.
However along with the diversity of the Stone Hearth dining experience, it is the genuine service, affordability and the aforementioned attention to detail that sets this inn, restaurant and tavern apart. “We have spent the past year building relationships with the local population and we pride ourselves on making the inn comfortable and relaxing for our guests and for the guests who are passing through,” Sheldon concluded.
“I feel that people return because we offer a relaxing, homey atmosphere, as well as a variety of activities for the children. Parents can relax while the kids enjoy themselves playing games inside or out. What we enjoy the most is meeting people, they are great and supportive and we have made many new friends since we have moved to Chester.”
